Oh, The Headlines: #2
On the front page of today's Chicago Tribune:
Bush plan vague on torture, evidence
As my co-worker Annie said, that's kind of like saying, "Democrats vague on plan, alternatives."
Sigh.
Artistico-socio-political ramblings, disorientations, confusions, and ducks. And Friday Poetry. We have that too.

Alas.
The difference between the two statements being that someone in the Bush camp has very specific ideas about using torture methods and a very specific, highly constructed indifference to evidence--even if the plan is vague.
The Democratic camp cannot even boast a devious specificity behind the vagueness. I get the sensation lately of watching a show that the Republicans can't stop performing, and an utter loss on the Democrats' side on what to do if they can't get a booking because every theatre has sold out for the Republican show. Well, then godammit, you've hit the limit political theatre and you've got to find other venues and other kinds of events than a show.
Did any of that make sense outside of my head? If an opposition party doesn't have power, then it has to have substance. Spin without power means nothing.
I couldn't agree with tyromaven more.
